Education

Metropolitan State University of Denver
Jonah Langer Graduate of MSU

Graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2000 with a BA in Music and an emphasis in classical guitar.

This was such a great experience for me as I learned so much about music including music theory, classical guitar technique, music history, composition, and ensemble training.

The Recording Workshop

I attended The Recording Workshop in 1992. At the time, this was a full one month immersion program where you learn recording/engineering skills.

It is based about 10 miles outside of Chillicothe OH so there is not much to do other than hang out and learn recording skills.

You share a cabin with 5 or 6 other students and the spend your time learning how to record, communicate with bands, mix down, produce, and engineer music.

These skills have served me well over the years including running live sound, and recording many bands.

Self Improvement
Jonah Langer Musician

I have spent lots of time playing, learning, and recording music over the years on my own.

Primarily I am a guitar player but I also love to play bass (played in a band for 4 years as the bass player) as well as drums & keyboards.

One of the main reason I continue to write and record songs is not only because its fun but it also allows me to continue to improve these skills.

Styles & Genres

Rock Music Lessons

I love to listen to and play rock music! Primarily my influences lean toward classic rock, 90s alternative, acoustic rock, and modern rock.

Jazz Guitar lessons

I don’t consider myself a jazz musician but I do love to listen to jazz and can play through most standards. In addition, I love music theory and jazz music theory.

Acoustic

On acoustic guitar, I can teach a few styles including both picking and fingerstyle. While I am not a vocal coach, I can hold a tune for the most part and can teach you to sing and play together.

Classical

Classical Guitar

I studied classical guitar in college, however in recent years my style has leaned more towards rock and jazz.

Even so, if you are interested in classical guitar, I can at least get you started in the right direction with proper technique, and running through a few basic etudes.

Music Reading, Chart Reading & Theory

Most of the playing that I do these days does not involve much music reading but I did a lot of it in college and still occasionally use it. If you are a beginning site reader or looking to learn site reading I can help you get started.

Tablature is also a great skill to learn if you want to teach yourself from the many resources available online. I read tab all the time and can help with that as well.

I do a fair amount of charting and reading charts as well. This is a great skill for learning jazz songs or writing out your own songs.

I love music theory and have a fairly good grasp on it at this point. If you want to learn some theory or discuss music from a theoretical perspective, I am happy to do that as well!
